At the height of the British Empire, Queen Victoria sends pampered adventurer Lionel Hest and a small crew to explore the heavens in an inexplicable space dirigible. Lionel jumps at the chance, to quest for glory as well as to search for the soul of his dead wife in the vast emptiness of space. Instead, he and his crew find planets full of grotesque and brutal alien races, and it quickly becomes clear they are in way over their heads.
