Program Notes
Alternative is the Mainstream: Reggie Watts, Kristen Schaal & Kurt Braunohler, Liam McEneaney, and Christian Finnegan are among the performers in this comedy documentary that does for the current indie comedy scene what The Last Waltz or Woodstock did for Baby Boomer rock.
It not only features performances from the some of the best rising comedians in the United States, but it gives a sense of the world from which these performers have risen, through interviews with such comedy luminaries as Janeane Garofalo, Jim Gaffigan, Colin Quinn, Marc Maron, and many others.
Tell Your Friends! The Concert Film! tells the story of not just a show, but a scene--a generation of comedians who honed their craft in the bars, rock clubs, and little black box theatres outside the mainstream comedy club circuit. A generation of comedians who have gone from the dark back rooms of New York City to the bright lights of mainstream movies, television shows, and big theater tours.
